Pierce Fox Cohalan is a District Court Judge presiding in the Suffolk County District Court in Central Islip, NY. Judge Cohalan also serves as an acting County Court Judge and is the presiding Judge of the Suffolk County Veteran’s Court as well as the Supervising Judge of the Suffolk County Town and Village Courts. Prior to his election to the court, he served as Town Attorney for the Town of Islip, one of the largest municipalities in Suffolk County. He also was an Assistant District Attorney, and served as legal counsel to an international corporation and several non-profit organizations.
Judge Cohalan joined the Army Reserve in 2009, and presently serves as a Major in Judge Advocate General’s Corp. In 2012, Judge Cohalan deployed to Afghanistan where he served as the legal advisor for elements attached to the Combined Joint Special Operations Task Force – Afghanistan. Judge Cohalan has been awarded the Bronze Star, the Combat Action Badge and the Army Parachutist Badge.
Judge Cohalan received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Lehigh University, his Juris Doctorate from Hofstra University School of Law, and an MBA from Columbia University Business School. He has also been a Sayville Ferry captain since 1985.
