Strong Community Turnout for Penn State Hockey Watch Party at the LT Michael P. Murphy Navy SEAL Museum
Sayville, NY — The LT Michael P. Murphy Navy SEAL Museum recently hosted a successful Penn State Hockey Watch Party, bringing together community members, alumni, and supporters to celebrate the legacy of Michael P. Murphy while cheering on the Penn State Nittany Lions men’s ice hockey.
The event welcomed a strong turnout that included Penn State alumni, students, local veterans, and members of the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office, creating a meaningful evening centered around community, service, and shared pride.
Attendees gathered at the museum to watch Penn State face off against Notre Dame Fighting Irish men’s ice hockey while honoring Lt. Murphy’s connection to Penn State, where he previously played club hockey.
Longtime Trustee and Museum Treasurer, Laura Racioppi, was honored by Suffolk County Sheriff Dr. Errol D. Toulon, Jr. with a Community Service Award. Sheriff Toulon explained Laura “plays a vital role in the museum’s mission to educate the public about the values of the Navy SEAL community.” The Sheriff also issued a challenge on behalf of the Sheriff’s Department: their ice hockey team challenges Penn State Ice Hockey alumni to a friendly game to benefit the Museum. Will you accept that challenge, Penn State?
A highlight of the evening was the unveiling of a commemorative Penn State Hockey Michael Murphy uniform. The Museum hopes to obtain and permanently display the uniform at the Museum as a tribute to Murphy’s legacy and the university’s continued recognition of his service and sacrifice.
The event was hosted by the museum and its staff, who welcomed guests for a night that blended sports, remembrance, and community engagement. The museum also extends its gratitude to the sponsors who helped make the evening possible, including Bulovas Restorations, Paws of War, The Wine Guy, At Your Service Staffing, and the New York Islanders.
The LT Michael P. Murphy Navy SEAL Museum preserves the stories, sacrifices, and legacy of the U.S. Navy’s Naval Special Warfare community. Through exhibits, programs, and community events, the museum honors service members while bringing the public together to learn about the life and legacy of Lt. Michael Murphy and other American heroes. For more information about upcoming events, visit murphsealmuseum.org.
